Accenture Federal Services is bringing in Leidos, which provides engineering, science and technology services to defense, intelligence, civil and health markets, to support its cloud migration efforts for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control.
WHY IT MATTERS
The CDC awarded a three-year, $189 million contract in October 2022 to address its IT systems and bring the enhanced legacy systems into a more secure cloud environment.
Leidos will provide application rationalization, project initiation and planning, application sustainment and other efforts for a one-year with additional options.
Cloud migration is expected to improve the CDC's public health data gathering, validation, analytics, forecasting and decision-making.
"We’re proud to support this mission and the CDC’s work protecting the health of the American people," said Liz Porter, Leidos Health Group president, in the announcement.
THE LARGER TREND
Accenture and Reston, Virginia-based Leidos have expertise in technology, healthcare and systems infrastructure and have partnered before.
Along with Henry Schein One and others, they developed and are deploying the U.S. Department of Defense's electronic health records system, Military Health System Genesis. MHS Genesis is expected to be rolled out to all garrison facilities by the end of this year.
Cloud technology offers healthcare agencies, providers and other organizations a way to simplify and secure operations so they can access data when and where needed.
For the CDC, digital transformation can enhance its work by studying things like vaccine efficacy among hospitalized patients and disease incidence rates.
ON THE RECORD
“We are excited to team with Accenture Federal Services and support the CDC’s digital modernization journey,” Porter said in the statement. "Through our experience and technical expertise migrating legacy systems, Leidos will accelerate the CDC’s performance and execution."
